The Left Wing And Right Wing Political Philosophies – Revisited

Politics has existed for as long as there have been organized societies and governments. Over time, political philosophies have been introduced, some are accepted, while others are scorned at. The political ideologies that persist to this day are usually grouped into left and right wing. Traditionally, the left includes progressives, social liberals and democrats, socialists, and communists and on the right are the conservatives, capitalists, and nationalists. In the US, left and right are associated with liberal and conservative, respectively, and generally identified with the Democratic Party and Republican Party in that same order.

Adherents of left-wing political ideologies support social change to create a more egalitarian society. Hence they promote government regulation of business, commerce, and industry and also champion the preservation of fundamental rights such as freedom of speech and religion. They are also known to support for social policies that favor the racial, ethnic, and sexual minorities and the working class.

Adherents of right-wing political ideologies in contrast tend to have more conservative views. They also promote deregulation of banking, commerce, and industry. During discussions of right-wing politics, common sense conservative philosophies are frequently touched upon. Common sense conservatives believe that left-wing statesmen are mired in their imaginings of having an unattainable egalitarian society.

Those who hold commonsense conservative views believe that instead of governing on the basis of "what should work", politicians should govern with "what has worked." If you visit conservative blogs you will realize that those who take this political position do not support radical societal changes. Conservative blogs writers and followers are also are staunch supporters of policies that uphold Christian and traditional family values.

On a global level, the consensus as to what constitutes left-wing and right-wing politics is changing as it is not uncommon to find parties nowadays assuming a left-wing position on one matter, and a right-wing position on another. Just the same, these two globally opposed political families will continue to exist into the future as both of them are necessary to ensure that the country will press ever forward. Differences in political philosophies is necessary in legislation as it promotes extensive discussion, and provides assurance to the general population that policy proposals have been scrutinized from all angles before they are approved and executed.
